Bubbles!

Posted in General at Tuesday, August 17, 2004 2:28 AM Pacific Daylight Time

Last night I was up doing my guitar lessons and my wife called me into the room. She is four and a half months pregnant and she was wondering if the baby moving around would feel like bubbles. I guessed that it probably would and put my hand on her stomach and wow! I could feel the baby hitting my hand every so often. That was a first for us and it was a very cool experience. I've been excited about my wife being pregnant but this made it seem much more real.

SharePoint Resources and Wiki

Posted in SharePoint | General at Monday, August 16, 2004 7:41 AM Pacific Daylight Time

Back in March I collected a bunch of SharePoint resources and stuck them in an article. Of course, the article became quickly outdated. Soon to follow were other resource lists here, here, here, and here. (all of which are much more comprehensive than my list).

So I've added a wiki (running FlexWiki) to my personal homepage (which I really need to redo) and on my wiki I've added a SharePoint Resource Page. This is a collaboration experiment to see if maybe a list that anyone can edit will be more effective than a list that one person maintains (I know it will work better for me since I'm terrible at keeping sites up-to-date).

I've added most of the resources from my resource page and I'll soon add the rest. If you have a resource you like please add it to the page as well. (And it would be really cool if some of the other resource lists were to add some of their resources but I'll probably just have to copy them)

It will be interesting to see if this gets used at all. If it gets a lot of use then it might be worth setting this up somewhere more central like the WSSFAQ site.

Meme meme

Posted in General at Friday, August 13, 2004 3:13 AM Pacific Daylight Time

This posting is a community experiment that tests how a meme, represented by this blog posting, spreads across blogspace, physical space and time. It will help to show how ideas travel across blogs in space and time and how blogs are connected. It may also help to show which blogs (and aggregation sites) are most influential in the propagation of memes. The dataset from this experiment will be public, and can be located via Google (or Technorati) by doing a search for the GUID for this meme (below).

Please join the test by adding your blog (see instructions, below) and inviting your friends to participate?the more the better. The data from this test will be public and open; others may use it to visualize and study the connectedness of blogspace and the propagation of memes across blogs.

The GUID for this experiment is:
as098398298250swg9e98929872525389t9987898tq98wteqtgaq62010920352598gawst

The above GUID enables anyone to easily search Google or other search engines for all blogs that participate in this experiment, once they have indexed the sites that participate, which may take several days or weeks. To locate the full data set, just search for any sites that contain this GUID.

Anyone is free to analyze the data of this experiment. Please publicize your analysis of the data, and/or any comments by adding comments onto the original post (seeURL above) [Note that the URL has vanished at least three generations back - DCH]. (Note: it would be interesting to see a geographic map or a temporal animation, as well as a social network map of the propagation of this meme.)

INSTRUCTIONS

To add your blog to this experiment, copy this entire posting to your blog, and then answer the questions below, substituting your own information, below, where appropriate. Other than answering the questions below, please do not alter the information, layout or format of this post in order to preserve the integrity of the data in this experiment (this will make it easier for searchers and automated bots to find and analyze the results later).

Back from Vacation

Posted in General at Monday, August 9, 2004 4:42 AM Pacific Daylight Time

I'm back from spending a week camping in Yosemite with my wife and some of her family. I think the highlight of the trip was hiking to the top of Vernal Falls with my 3-year-old nephew on my back. It was a great workout.

Once I get done catching up with things I'll continue to dig into SQL Server 2005.
