Qtek 8310 coming to T-mobile in October

Posted in Gadgets | Windows Mobile at Thursday, August 25, 2005 4:17 AM Pacific Daylight Time

via Engadget:

HTC Tornado Qtek 8310We’ve received confirmation from several different sources now that T-Mobile is going to be the first (and possibly only) US carrier to get its hands on the HTC Tornado (aka the Qtek 8310), that new Windows Mobile-powered Smartphone that comes with built-in WiFi and a QVGA display. Better yet, they’re aiming for a $200 price point (with a one year contract, natch) and probably won’t be crippling Bluetooth on the phone. Not sure what it’ll be called when it turns up on T-Mobile (it definitely won’t be called the Qtek 8310 or the HTC Tornado), but we did have a chance to play around with this phone for a few minutes yesterday. All we gotta say (for now) is that the QVGA display is totally slick.

This looks like a great replacement for my current smart phone, the i-mate sp3i. Hopefully there will be a sim free version from expansys soon.

QuickCode

As Jeff Key put it:

QuickCode, how I love thee.

I've been using this tool for quite some time, but just wanted to give it a plug since it just saved me a lot of time. :)

Blogging

Posted in General at Wednesday, August 24, 2005 6:27 AM Pacific Daylight Time

I think there is a correlation between how much I read blogs and how much I post to my own blog. For the last few months I haven't been reading blogs much (mostly due to the fact that I'm not always on the same computer) which explains some of why I haven't been posting as much. However, I recently started using Bloglines again (even though I still haven't been able to fully import my opml feed list, it always dies about 2/3 of the way into the import) which has inspired me to start posting more.

Update: I noticed that Amanda is looking for a new Rss Aggregators. As I mentioned I'm now using Bloglines, but I just discovered a very cool utility that makes using Bloglines even better. There is a Bloglines Windows Notifier:

The Bloglines Windows Notifier is a very small (100kb) Windows program that tells you when you have new items in your Bloglines account. The program queries the Bloglines servers at a user defined interval. It places a small icon in your system tray which changes to indicate when you have new items.

The notifier works great. It also works behind firewalls and proxies and the installer can easily fit on a usb key.

Eli's SharePoint Resources Updated

Posted in Reporting Services | SharePoint at Wednesday, August 24, 2005 6:16 AM Pacific Daylight Time

From Eli Robillard:

After a year and 32065 web views, I've reorganized and moved the SharePoint resource page into an article. In addition to giving it a more sensible URL, the switch reflects the fact that this is a continuously updated resource and not a one-time posting. I've also added hand-tuned searches, making it easy to locate the most current information for each topic. Don't forget to update your bookmarks and links, and as always, enjoy!

I noticed that the RsWebParts are not listed in the Web Parts section, but other than that it looks like a great list of stuff. My own SharePoint Resource Page has gotten pretty stale (though that isn't entirely my own fault, it is a wiki after all :)

Role-Based Security in Web Parts 2

Posted in SharePoint at Wednesday, August 24, 2005 5:58 AM Pacific Daylight Time

From Patrick:

Ted Pattison has polished an old article on solving the problems developers encounter when programming role-based security within a SharePoint Web part. Required reading material for every SharePoint developer.

The best part is, since Ted is no longer “writing under the fin name of Barry Kouda”, you can now link directly to his blog posts!

Movie Reviews

Posted in General at Wednesday, August 24, 2005 1:07 AM Pacific Daylight Time

A few days ago I setup a blog for my brother Tyler so he could write up his movie reviews. I just checked the site and he has been very busy. A few choice reviews:

Stop by and let him know what you think!
